Ke$ha Demands Costume Changes Over ‘Nazi’ Fears

Pop star KE$HA demanded a costume change for her dancers ahead of a TV appearance at the weekend (13-14Nov10) over fears the military-style outfits looked like “Nazi uniforms”.

The Tik Tok hitmaker performed on Australian TV talent show The X Factor on Sunday evening (14Nov10) with a troupe of female backing dancers, all clad in skimpy outfits.
But the singer stepped in at the last minute to order wardrobe workers to change the girls’ costumes, amid worries their red armbands could be mistaken for Nazi symbols.
A representative for Ke$ha’s Sony record label says, “The costumes, which had been supplied locally, had the dancers wearing red arm bands and Ke$ha was concerned they looked like Nazi uniforms and requested they be removed, as this was simply not part of the brief.”
Ashley Evans, director of the dance company behind the performance, Squared Division, adds, “The whole idea behind the performance was that Ke$ha was a dance commander and the dancers were her army. The costumes were hired and it was Ke$ha who said they looked a bit Nazi and asked for them to be changed. Nothing German or Nazi was ever part of the plan.”
