Billy Ray Cyrus Says Miley is a ‘Real Artist Now’

CNN

Billy Ray Cyrus has jumped to the defense of his daughter Miley in his first TV sit down since her provocative performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last month.

The Achy Breaky Heart singer pulled out of a planned interview with CNN newsman Piers Morgan in the days after Miley’s racy routine in New York hit the headlines and became a major talking point.

The pop star stripped to her underwear onstage at the Barclays Center and performed Blurred Lines with Robin Thicke while making suggestive facial and hand gestures and grinding her performance partner’s crotch.

Then, days later she debuted her video for new song Wrecking Ball, in which she rides a metal ball and chain while completely naked.

Miley’s dad honored his commitment to appear on news show Piers Morgan Tonight on Thursday, and told the host he’s proud of his daughter no matter how much she shocks.

He said, “She’s just Miley. She’s an artist, she’s real. I think that what’s happened over the years, Miley has been reinventing her sound, she’s evolving as an artist herself… All of what everyone is calling controversy now, that’s still my Miley.”

And he urged viewers to step back and realize what the 20 year old has achieved since turning her back on her Disney character  Hannah Montana.

He added, “What a risk, just the fact that she went and cut her hair off – that was huge. She could have stayed Hannah Montana forever and made a great living doing that, but she’s more of an artist than that and she wanted to evolve and she had to take her time.

“She’s very very smart and she’s had all of this thought out in advance… Miley has been around a lot of the greats like Dolly who have (gone) through that continual process of reinvention. Miley’s smart enough to know that to come out of the shadows of Hannah Montana, it really takes something extremely drastic, which, when you go to that level, it creates passion, and passion is either love or hate, but there’s no middle of the road for passion.

“She knows the charts, she set a path, she knew what she wanted to do. In today’s world, the shock factor is tremendously higher than it used to be.”

Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth Put Off Summer Wedding

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth will not be walking down the aisle any time soon, according to an insider. The couple has decided to put summer wedding plans on hold as they “figure out” life.

“They want to figure out their life together before they get married,” the source tells People magazine. “They’re still engaged and living together. They just realized that there is no rush with the wedding and that it’s better that they wait a bit.”

Cyrus’ father Billy Ray Cyrus recently expressed his doubts that the wedding will ever happen. “I don’t know (if they will get married). I really don’t. I play it by ear and I know whatever is meant to be, that’s the way it’s going to happen,” he said.

Hemsworth, 23, proposed to Cyrus, 20, with a 3.5-carat Neil Lane ring last May. “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” Cyrus told People magazine at the time.

Billy Ray Cyrus Drops Divorce

Billy Ray Cyrus is no longer getting a divorce.

The singer-and-actor says he and his wife Tish – who are parents to ‘Hannah Montana’ star Miley Cyrus – have decided to stay together because his family now feel closer than ever.

He said: “I’ve dropped the divorce. I want to put my family back together . Things are the best they’ve ever been.”

The ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ star – who also has another daughter Noah, 10 and a son Braison, 16 with Tish – added that he has recovered his father-daughter bond with Miley after speaking out about her recent antics including smoking a legal high through a bong device.

He said: “I feel like I got my Miley back. I feel like we’re the daddy and daughter we were before ‘Hannah Montana’.”

In October he announced that he was splitting with the mother of his children after 17 years of marriage, before speaking last month of his desire to “mend” his family.

When asked if his daughter’s role as the pop princess caused difficulties at home he said the whole experience of fame was to blame.

He told TV show ‘The View’: “‘Hannah Montana’ didn’t ruin my family. Fame did.”

“Sometimes when you get in this ride, you feel like you’re strapped to a rocket.”

Miley Cyrus Provokes Fury of Ant-Drug Activists

Miley Cyrus has come under fire from anti-drugs campaigners, who have criticised the teenage star after she was caught on camera allegedly smoking a hallucinogenic legal high.

A video of the Hannah Montana singer/actress puffing on a bong emerged online on Friday (Dec 10), much to the dismay of her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who insisted he was saddened by the footage.
The 18 year old, who is shown giggling and babbling incoherently in the film, is said to have beensmoking controversial but legal psychoactive plant Salvia, and experts are already stepping forward to condemn Cyrus’ actions.
Former California State Assemblyman, Anthony Adams, who attempted to have the substance banned in the state back in 2007, is adamant the young star is setting a bad example.
He tells TMZ.com, “You do incredibly crazy things (under the influence of Salvia). Miley is a star and young kids are going to emulate her behaviour. It’s time for state and federal governments to renew their push toward an outright ban (of this substance).” A spokesperson for America’s Drug Enforcement Administration adds, “Salvia is a drug of concern. We are taking steps to look further into it…”
