Singer Taylor Swift has shut down ongoing rumors about her love life, insisting she didn’t purchase a home next to her ex Conor Kennedy or buy Harry Styles Beatles memorabilia for Christmas.
The Love Story hitmaker was thought to have shelled out $4.5 million for an oceanside estate in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts last summer so she could be closer to the 18-year-old son of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
However, Swift jokes that’s simply not the case, telling Spanish TV show El Hormiguero, “People say that I’m buying houses all the time that I’m not buying. It’s like every time the press thinks I like a guy, they say I am buying a house next to them.”
The media struck again just before the holidays, with reports suggesting the country star was shopping for autographed Fab Four items for her then-boyfriend Styles of One Direction, but the tabloids were all mistaken.
Swift continues, “And also they think they know what I’m getting people for Christmas, which they don’t. I was thinking when I saw that one (rumor) that if they actually got it right I would be so sad because they would have blown my Christmas present, but they were all wrong.”
Fans usually hear about Taylor Swift’s love life through her songs, but this time the superstar is dishing about romance in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. Swift, whose past boyfriends include Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal and Connor Kennedy, tells the magazine about what she wants in a partner.
“If I feel too much like I’m wearing the pants, I start to feel uncomfortable and then we break up,” says Swift.
“It needs to be equal,” she explains.
The 22-year-old says she is looking for someone who can handle being in control sometimes. “[Relationships are] the ultimate collaboration, [but sometimes] it’s wonderful to hand over the reins to your boyfriend when you control so much of these big, high-pressure decisions, you know? That is a huge defining factor in who you choose to be with,” Swift tells the magazine.
“Some combinations of people are toxic, you know? You have to find the right one that isn’t just going to explode into fiery ash and destruction,” she adds. “Despite all of that and how unpleasant it is, as a writer you get a lot from it. It’s a crazy justification system. You know that guy you really wish you could erase from your memory? But then the answer is track six, eight, 12, and 13.”
Swift’s recently released album Red has already sold nearly 1.6 million copies. She will kick off her next tour in Omaha, Nebraska on March 13. 2013.
It’s over for Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy. A close friend of Swift tells Us Weekly magazine the pair ended their brief romance “a while ago.” the split was amicable and Swift, 22, and Kennedy, 18, remain friends, according to the insider.
“They quietly parted ways a while ago. It was just a distance thing. No hard feelings. They’re fine,” the friend says.
Swift’s busy work schedule and the recent release of her album Red reportedly played a part in the breakup. “It’s been over a month since they’ve even seen each other,” the insider adds. “With her promotion for Red, she has no time off until the end of the year.”
The singer has not commented. She began dating Kennedy, the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in July. Swift previously dated Jonas Brothers singer Joe Jonas, Twilight star Taylor Lautner and actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
