Bosses at the British Broadcasting Company have apologized about a “factual inaccuracy” in a joke on a popular U.K. panel show about Prince Harry taking drugs.
Comedienne Jo Brand was hosting Have I Got News For You last week when she mentioned Prince George’s recent christening.
She said, “George’s godparents include Hugh van Cutsem. I presume that’s a nickname as in ‘Hugh van cuts ’em and Harry then snorts ’em’.”
However, the remark attracted a backlash from viewers and now BBC bosses have said they are sorry for getting the name of one of George’s four godfathers wrong. Van Cutsem’s brother William was actually handed the role.
A statement from the broadcaster reads, “We apologize for the factual inaccuracy in Friday’s program and have edited iPlayer and future repeats accordingly.”
However, the channel has refused to apologize for poking fun at Prince Harry, adding, “It’s a satirical news quiz. This was clearly a tongue in cheek comment.”
