Is The Droid Incredible 2 Really Incredible?

A Non-Techie Review Of The Droid Incredible 2:

Yes, It’s Incredible!

By Anne M. Raso

It is embarrassing to admit that in this time of hand-held devices that do everything but blow dry your hair and walk your dog, I am lucky that I can even figure out how to use the exclamation point key on the keypad or even enter a new contact! The new Droid Incredible 2 makes all the basics (as well as the harder stuff like uploading multiple photos of your trip to Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp) easy for the tech-challenged user such as myself!

What do we love so much about The Droid Incredible 2? We’ve got a laundry list, and some of it might sound silly but for starters, the sleek black look is really “urban chic” and it is significantly thinner than a current Blackberry model (I compared it to the Bold, my last BBB device). I have that the time is so large on the screen that you probably see it from five New York City blocks away. This is very helpful considering I am 50 and can no longer see anything within three feet without reading glasses. There is a virtual keyboard that pops up much like an iPhone but it is great at “guessing” what word you are about to type and gives you several choices that you can just click on and then, voila, there is the whole word on your email. My only problem with that is when I was trying to write to the Monkees’ Reunion Tour publicist and the spellcheck just kept insisting it had to be spelled “Monkeys”! You can just push a button to stop the suggested spellings, so it is not really a big deal.

The LCD screen is a whopping four inches and your movies and YouTube videos look and sound great—the same for any music files you might play as the Incredible 2 features SRS WOW HD surround sound. The user gets access to all the tunes they care to download through V CAST Music with Rhapsody. I enjoyed the expert DJs on Slacker Internet Radio as well. I was intrigued when I got the phone and saw an icon on the desktop simply called Slacker—I thought it was going to be an app that was something for lazy people to organize their day, but it provided one of the best music experiences I have ever had on a desktop computer or hand-held device.

I noticed that my Facebook photos look even crisper than on my 20” iMac and that the device automatically comes with a feature known as Friendstream which ties updates by all your friends from Twitter, Facebook and Flickr together into one stream. This really helps when you are addicted to all three and don’t want to go back and forth between them all. There is a 720p HD video feature that takes better videos than even my first generation FLIP camera, and still photos are as good as my Panasonic Lumix camera that has 12 megapixels.

For those who are mainly interested in just talking on the phone, the Droid Incredible 2 turned into a 3G Mobile Hotspot for up to five other Wifi enable devices, and the device is global ready, meaning you can talk to anyone from Albuquerque to Sydney.

In case you are concerned about size, the Droid Incredible 2 measures 4.75” long x 2.52” wide x .48” tall and weighs 4.77 ounces. That is pretty light as far as hand-helds go—and the final feature we would like to point out is that the charge is strong. I personally found that if you plug the Incredible 2 in for a couple of hours, the charge lasts for about two days.

Yes, I found the Incredible 2 pretty incredible and am now weaning myself off my Blackberry Bold and moving on to this device—which I find much faster in general and a much better experience for social networking.
