‘Social Network,’ ‘King’s Speech,’ ‘True Grit’ Lead Oscar Nominations

When the nominees for the 83rd annual Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday morning (January 25), “The King’s Speech” came out on top with a field-leading 12 nominations. The critically acclaimed story of Queen Elizabeth II’s stuttering father was trailed by the remake of the western “True Grit,” which locked up 10 nods, followed by “The Social Network”and “Inception,” which each racked up eight nominations.

In one of the most lauded performances of the year, Natalie Portman lead the roster of Best Actress nominees for her role as a conflicted ballerina in “Black Swan,” in a category in which she’ll face off against Annette Benning (“The Kids are All Right”), Nicole Kidman (“Rabbit Hole”), Jennifer Lawrence (“Winter’s Bone”) and Michelle Williams (“Blue Valentine”). Warner Bros. Records To Release Two Bonus Tracks From Inception: Music From The Motion Picture

Due to the overwhelming success of Inception: Music From The Motion Picture — Oscar®-winning film composer Hans Zimmer’s dramatic score to the blockbuster sci-fi actioner “Inception,” Warner Bros. Records will make available two previously unreleased bonus tracks to fans who sign up via email at the soundtrack’s website: The two bonus tracks, “Projections” and “Don’t Think About Elephants,” will go live at noon PT on Thursday, August 12th.  “Inception (Junkie XL Remix)” is now available at iTunes and all other major DSP’s.
Inception: Music From The Motion Picture debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Soundtrack chart and No. 3 on the retailer’s Top Albums chart, selling nearly 6,000 digital albums its first week. It also debuted at No. 4 on theBillboard Top Soundtracks chart and has remained at No. 6 for the past two weeks. An exclusive clear vinyl edition of the soundtrack will be released on October 26th.
The soundtrack was produced by Zimmer, Lorne Balfe, Christopher Nolan, and Alex Gibson. Guitarist Johnny Marr (The Smiths, Modest Mouse, The Cribs) performs on eight of the tracks, including “528491” and “Time,” which is Top 5 on the iTunes Soundtrack Songs chart.
Zimmer is one of the film industry’s most respected and sought-after composers with a career that encompasses more than 100 film and television scores.  He previously collaborated with Christopher Nolan on the films “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight.”  An Academy Award® winner for his score for “The Lion King,” Zimmer has also received seven additional Oscar® nominations for his work on “Sherlock Holmes,” “Gladiator,” “The Thin Red Line,” “Rain Man,” “As Good as It Gets,” “The Preacher’s Wife” and “The Prince of Egypt.”  Among his many honors, Zimmer has also won two Golden Globes and three Grammy Awards.
