It was a sad night for James Durbin fans on Thursday’s American Idol. After 72 million votes were tallied, it was determined that it was the end of the Idol road for Durbin, one of the longtime favorites in the competition. Durbin landed in the bottom two with Scotty McCreery.
“I worked so damn hard to get here and, God, I was really hoping to get there. I did so much stuff that’s never been done on this show before … In my eyes, in my mind … I did what I came here to do, and that was to give metal a chance!” said Durbin as he broke down in tears.
The 22-year-old, who suffers from Tourette syndrome and autism, sang “Maybe I’m Amazed” for his final performance on the Idol stage. The top 3 Idol contestants are: Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and Hailey Reinhart.
