Restaurant Opening by Lady Gaga’s Parents Raises Much-needed Awareness of the Autoimmune Disease Lupus

The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation thanks the “stars” shining on lupus tonight with two celebrity happenings that spotlighted national attention on the little-understood disease. Lady Gaga’s parents Joe and Cynthia Germanotta opened a NYC restaurant aptly named “Joanne Trattoria” in honor of his sister Joanne who died of lupus at age 19. And while restaurant guests chose from a menu including one of Joanne’s favorites, TV viewers at home learned about lupus in this week’s episode of the popular show Royal Pains.
