The Hallmark Channel has pulled the plug on Marie Osmond’s talk show.
In a statement Tuesday, the TV channel said it won’t renew “Marie” for a second season.
The show’s producer and distributor, Associated Television International, said that “Marie” was going into syndication as originally intended. A fall 2014 launch is planned, the company said.
Hallmark said it wants to go in a different direction in daytime: It’s decided that so-called lifestyle shows offering how-to tips are a better option on TV and online.
The channel said it expected Osmond to find “great success” in bringing her talk show to syndication.
She’ll find a competitive field, which currently includes veteran Ellen DeGeneres and newcomers Katie Couric and Steve Harvey. Kris Jenner is also launching her own talk show later this month, and Bethenny Frankel’s will premiere in the fall.
New and repeat episodes of “Marie” will air on Hallmark through September.
“Marie” has drawn interest from groups and key stations and will be made available to several outlets nationwide, said Jim Romanovich, Associated Television International’s president, worldwide entertainment. He did not specify the outlets.
Kris Jenner has attempted to explain the strange name of her newest grandchild, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s 1-week-old daughter North West. In an interview on The View to promote her upcoming talk show Kris, Jenner said Kim and Kanye didn’t pick the name North just because of Kanye’s last name.
“The way [Kim] explained it to me was that North means highest power, and she says that North is their highest point together and I thought that was really sweet,” she explained.
“It’s North West, but you don’t walk around calling somebody, ‘Hi North West.’ It’s just North,” she said, adding that Kim and Kanye are considering a nickname for the baby. Jenner said she does not know “what they’ve decided on.”
As for her opinion on the name, Jenner said she is “pro-North, absolutely.”
Kim, 32, gave birth to North on Saturday, June 15. Although North was born about 5 weeks early and weighed just 4 lbs. 15 oz, she is healthy and has already left the hospital. Kim and Kanye have yet to speak publicly about her birth. The new family is said to be living at Jenner’s home while their own $9 million Bel Air mansion is renovated.
If Kris Jenner has her way the Kardashian sisters will soon be dominate TV. Insiders say the Kardashian-Jenner family matriarch became determined to land Kourtney and Kim TV hosting gigs after Khloe was chosen to co-host The X Factor with Mario Lopez.
“With Khloe getting her dream job as an X Factor host, Kris thinks anything is possible now. Kris thinks that Kim and Kourtney can benefit from Khloe’s luck and is desperate for them to go off on their own and appear in other shows,” a family insider tells RadarOnline.com. “As soon as the contract was signed, Kris immediately got on the phone to various TV production companies to find out if there was something that Kim and Kourtney could work on.”
Jenner’s top choices for Kourtney and Kim are Project Runway and America’s Next Top Model. “Because Kourtney was more prominently involved with working on their Dash clothing label, Kris believes she should be on a show like Project Runway. Kim is great in front of the camera, has lots of experience modeling and doing fashion shoots, so Kris is desperate for her to get involved as a judge on a show like America’s Next Top Model,” the source adds.
