Acclaimed filmmaker David Lynch has teamed up with vocalist Chrysta Bell for the release of the remarkable 11-song outing This Train on the La Rose Noire label. Lynch is the Palme d’Or-winning, four-time Academy Award-nominated director/writer of such films as The Elephant Man, Lost Highway and Blue Velvet.
This Train, written and produced by Lynch, taps into the iconic sounds of his television and film productions, armed with Bell’s haunting and ethereal voice. Lynch has discovered in his long-time collaboration with Bell a dreamscape of lush vocal authenticity that matched his musical vision with sheer precision. “She was born to sing and be on stage,” Lynch says of his musical partner.
“This Train is the musical equivalent of a David Lynch film,” says Bell, adding “David navigated nearly every aspect of the album. I trusted his direction and intuition implicitly. You cannot help but think ‘this is so Lynch’ while listening to this record.”
Bell has been singing since she was eleven, when the talented songstress lent her voice to professional commercial jingles. She has traveled the world as a performing artist, signing in places including China, Rome and in front of 40,000 people at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Bell met Lynch during her time as singer for RCA Victor gypsy swing act 8 ½ Souvenirs.
This Train is available through download, on CD format and also as a limited edition double-deluxe vinyl outing. The album features original photography and artwork by Lynch.
