Sir Elton John is putting pen to paper to share his experiences of the global Aids epidemic in his first book. The singer will write about losing friends, including Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, to the disease in Love Is The Cure: Ending The Global Aids Epidemic.
The non-fiction tome has been described by publishers Hodder & Stoughton as “the very personal story of Sir Elton’s life during the Aids epidemic, including his agony at seeing friend after friend perish needlessly”.
The Rocket Man has promised to donate proceeds to the Elton John Aids Foundation and hopes the book will help tackle the stigma attached to the disease.
He says, “Why are we not doing more? This is a question I have thought deeply about, and wish to answer – and to help change – by writing this book… This is a disease that must be cured not by a miraculous vaccine, but by changing hearts and minds.”
Sir Elton will release the book in July (12).
