New details have been revealed about Elton John‘s upcoming book, Love Is the Cure: On Life, Loss and the End of AIDS. In the 256-page volume, the pop legend discusses his deep involvement in the fight against the deadly disease, beginning with his befriending of Ryan White, the Indiana boy who contracted and died of AIDS after receiving a blood transfusion during the 1980s.
Love Is the Cure, which will be published on July 17, also will feature Elton’s stories about his friendships with fellow celebrities, including Princess Diana, Queen singer Freddie Mercury and Elizabeth Taylor. The book will be available in the hardcover, paperback, digital and CD audio formats.
You can hear an audio clip of John reading an introductory passage from the book at HatchetteBookGroup.com. In the segment, the singer says, “I’ve made my living telling stories through songs, and it gives me incredible joy the way people connect with my music. That is all I hope to do in this book, to tell stories that connect people with this epidemic so we can work together to end it.”
Sales of Love Is the Cure will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
