X Factor’ Winner Melanie Amaro Lands Recording Deal

The teenager who became the X Factor‘s first winner has signed her first deal.

Melanie Amaro picked up a $5 million check when she won the talent show last month and now she’s an Epic Records artist.

X Factor judge/mentor Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid will now oversee her career as the chairman/CEO of Epic.

Series creator and fellow judge Simon Cowell, who selected Amaro among his group of wannabes after initially rejecting her and sending her home, says, “We all agreed that Epic would be the right fit for Melanie. L.A. made it clear that he wanted the opportunity to work with her and with his track record, you can’t say no to that.”

X Factor: Melanie Amaro Steals The Show

The X Factor headed to Miami and Dallas Thursday night for the next set of auditions. An 18-year-old named Melanie Amaro was the highlight of the episode. The college freshman sang Beyonce’s “Listen” and earned a standing ovation from Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and LA Reid.
“This is why I do this. People like you inspire me,” Scherzinger said.
Reid called Amaro “truly amazing.” “You have the gift. You have the soul. You have the spirit. You have the swagger. You have the X factor,” he said.
“You got something that I haven’t heard in any audition I’ve been in,” Abdul told the teen.
Even Simon was impressed. “When I was asked by a lot of people why I was bringing this show to America it was because I hoped that we were going to find someone like you,” he said.
Amaro was put through to the next round.
