Miley Cyrus and Madonna team up for Cyrus’ ‘Unplugged’ special.  Cyrus says her song “We Can’t Stop” is like an update of Madonna’s 2000 hit song “Don’t Tell Me” — so it only makes sense that the singer enlists the help of the pop icon in performing the two songs for her MTV “Unplugged” special.

“A lot of what she represented for me is a lot of what I try to represent to girls now,” Miley, 21, adds.

“Not being afraid of sexuality, and really being who you want to be and doing what you want to do … ‘Don’t Tell Me’ is basically the same message as what I’m telling my fans in ‘We Can’t stop.'”

Katy Perry’s PRISM Debuts at #1

(pr)—PRISM, Katy Perry’s new studio album, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. According to Nielsen SoundScan, 286,344 units were sold in the US in the album’s first week of release – giving the global pop superstar the best sales week of her career and reflecting a nearly 50% increase over first week sales of 2010’sTeenage Dream, which debuted at No. 1 in eight countries and spent more than two years on the Billboard 200. The strong showing also marked 2013’s largest US sales week for a female artist. PRISM is the first No. 1 album for the Capitol Music Group since Chris Tomlin’s Burning Lights topped the chart in January and the first No. 1 album for the Capitol label since August, 2012.

The album is a global smash as well, shooting to No. 1 on iTunes in 90 markets around the world. Lead single “Roar” has already sold more than five million singles worldwide. It’s certified 6X Platinum in Australia (where it’s topped the chart for nine consecutive weeks), 4X Platinum in Canada (where it has become the biggest-selling single in chart history and has been the No. 1 airplay record on three formats for five weeks running) and 2X Platinum in New Zealand (where it’s been No. 1 for 11 consecutive weeks). “Roar” has gone Platinum in the UK, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Ireland and Sweden and is certified Gold in 10 countries.

“Perry has never sounded better,” said People. “This is a pop blockbuster that easily beats 2010’s hit-laden behemoth Teenage Dream.” “She’s making the mainstream not just swimming in it,” noted Entertainment Weekly while Idolator hailed the album as a “transcendental pop experience.” “Prism strikes a newly sophisticated balance between accessibility and idiosyncrasy,” observed the Los Angeles Times and The New York Timessaid, “Katy Perry is the most potent pop star of the day.”

Following the success of “Roar,” PRISM’s second single, “Unconditionally” is undeniably Katy’s next hit. Over 200 Pop, Rhythm and HOT AC stations have already added it and the song is already in the Top 20 most played at Pop in its first week- it’s no doubt that the song’s rapid rise is the making of yet another smash album.

Katy celebrated the release of PRISM with a series of special events:

– The Katy Perry iHeartRadio Album Release Party was the inaugural event at Clear Channel Media and Entertainment’s new iHeartRadio Theater Los Angeles. The October 22 event featured a live performance and Q&A with Katy, hosted by on-air talent/TV personality Mario Lopez. It aired live on 175 Clear Channel Contemporary Hit Radio (CHR), Rhythmic CHR, Adult Contemporary (AC) and Hot AC stations around the country and exclusively online at Yahoo Screen. The party was televised on The CW Network later that week. Katy also took over all Clear Channel CHR radio stations nationwide and on iHeartRadio as guest DJ, as CCM+E branded its stations “Katy Perry Radio” for the entire day.

– Citi and CBS Radio presented Katy Perry’s WE CAN SURVIVE on October 23 at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl. Ellie Goulding, Sara Bareilles, Tegan & Sara, Kacey Musgraves and Bonnie McKee joined Katy in the sold-out show with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Young Survival Coalition, the premier global organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer.

– On October 25, Katy’s performance at Colorado’s Lakewood High School aired live on “Good Morning America.” Lakewood was one of nearly 1,000 high schools that submitted lip dub videos of “Roar” to the “Good Morning America’s ‘Roar’ With Katy Perry Contest.” View Katy’s performance and the winning clip here.

Katy co-wrote each track on PRISM, with various producers including Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Klas Ahlund, and Greg Wells. PRISM also features collaborations with Bloodshy (“Love Me”), Greg Kurstin and Sia (“Double Rainbow”), as well as a return to the studio with “Firework” producers Stargate (“This Moment”).

Calling All Crazy Kids: MTV to Premiere New Season of the Hit Music Docu-Series "Kesha: My Crazy Beautiful Life" on October 30 at 10:30PM

MTV today announced that season two of the hit all-access music docu-series,“Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life,” will premiere on Wednesday, October 30 at 10:30pm ET/PT.

The series follows global superstar Ke$ha (Ke$ha.Artists.MTV) as she navigates balancing the madness and euphoria of her professional and personal life. This season fans will also get acquainted with her close-knit, outspoken and zany family and friends, including:

Pebe: Ke$ha and her mom, Pebe, are not that different. Both are outspoken, eccentric, and love to have fun. But that doesn’t mean they always get along. Even though they may argue, Pebe always has her daughter’s career in mind; and sometimes that means wearing a penis suit on stage in front of thousands of people.

Louie: If you thought Ke$ha was wild and crazy, just wait until you meet her younger brother Louie. Though he’s only 14 years old, he’s a force to be reckoned with. Louie is everything Ke$ha’s music embraces; he’s fun, energetic, and always ready to have a good time. But sometimes, he can be a little too much for even her to handle.

Lagan: Always with a camera by his side, Ke$ha’s older brother Lagan has been documenting her ride to fame since the beginning. Whether he’s behind the camera or sharing the screen with his little sister, Lagan is always ready to see where her crazy beautiful life will take them.

Savannah: Ke$ha’s best friend, who we met in season 1, returns with a vengeance when Ke$ha surprises her with a “luxury” vacation in the Bahamas that involves shark diving and camping on the beach.

Tessa: Ke$ha’s personal assistant at home in Nashville who provides comic relief when there is conflict at home (which is often). Whether the drama involves animals, autos or boyfriends, she is the calm at the center of the storm.

Kalan: Ke$ha’s go-to girl is her cousin, Kalan. Often referred to as a “princess” by those that know her, Kalan is Ke$ha’s best friend and confidant. Whether Ke$ha needs a shoulder to lean on or someone to hit the clubs with, she can always count on Kalan to be there for her.

Season One of “Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life” ranked as the #1 series across all TV in its time period with P12-34.* Season 2 will once again be executive produced by MTV veterans Liz Gateley and Tony DiSanto, and shot by Ke$ha’s brother Lagan Sebert, giving viewers an inside look at her life on and off the stage. This season is focused primarily on Ke$ha’s personal life, family dynamics and the crazy, sometimes comedic situations that occur when a world-famous popstar tries to live a normal life during a much needed break from touring.

The series marks the latest in a long existing relationship between Ke$ha and MTV, which has included presenting at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, New Year’s eve performance in 2012, appearances on the MTV Video Music Awards, The Show with Vinny, 10 on Top, and O Music Awards. During the course of her career, Ke$ha has been nominated for 4 VMA awards including best new artist and best pop video.

Season 2 follows Ke$ha in real time, with a minimal crew led by her brother, Lagan, capturing both her most public and intimate moments. The series was developed by Ke$ha and Lagan Sebert. It is executive produced by DR LUKE (Lukasz Gottwald), Liz Gateley and Tony DiSanto, Jack Rovner, Ken Levitan, Lagan Sebert, Jacquelyn French for MTV. Prod companies: DiGa Vision, Kemosabe Entertainment, Vector Management and Magic Seed productions.

On the heels of her smash hits “Die Young” and “C’Mon,” Ke$ha recently released “Crazy Kids,” the third single from her sophomore album, Warrior (Kemosabe/RCA Records.) The single is currently available at all digital music providers. Ke$ha has taken the world by storm since the release of her debut album in Animal in 2010. That year she was declared Billboard’s Hot 100 Artist and her smash debut single “TiK ToK” was named Billboard’s #1 Hot 100 Song, was the most played song of that year, and was the biggest-selling digital track in the world. Ke$ha has had seven consecutive Top 10 hits including three #1 singles: “TiK ToK”, “Your Love Is My Drug” and “We R Who We R.”

Lady Gaga Set for SNL as Musical Guest & Host?

Lady Gaga may be getting plenty of ‘Applause’ of her own this fall. TVLine.comreports exclusively that the ‘Born This Way’ singer may be returning for her third visit to NBC’s Saturday Night Live to serve as both musical guest and host.

A representative for the network declined to comment on the report, maintaining that the line-up for the new season of SNL is “still being finalized.”

Lady Gaga has previously appeared as the show’s musical guest in 2009 and 2011. On both visits she appeared in several sketches alongside hosts Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake.

Lady Gaga performed her new single, ‘Applause’ for the first time ever LIVE on the 2013 “MTV Video Music Awards” stage from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on August 25.

From her powerful and bloody rendition of “Paparazzi” to the gender bending, adrenaline fueled version of “You and I,” Lady Gaga is the mastermind behind some of the most memorable VMA performances in recent years.

As one of the most talked about and innovative artists of this generation, Lady Gaga has left an indelible mark on the “MTV Video Music Awards” by winning an astounding 13 Moonmen since 2009, including “Best New Artist,” “Video of the Year” for “Bad Romance” as well as “Best Video with a Message” for “Born This Way.”

On The Record: Katy Perry Discusses Writing "Roar"—"It’s a song about standing up for yourself"

Katy Perry was ready to rumble when she released her new single, “Roar,” but her battle wasn’t against any other artists, it was against her toughest opponent, herself.

“I started the record in November, but things were really flowing by the spring and it’s a song about standing up for yourself,” Perry told MTV News. “Who can be the biggest bully in the equation is yourself and can get in your way and it’s a song about speaking up for yourself and having the strength.” Watch the MTV video clip below for more on “Roar”.
