American Idol Loses Nicki Minaj And Mariah Carey, Keith Urban’s Fate Still Unclear

Following weeks of rumors, it has been confirmed that Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey are leaving after one season of serving on the American Idol judge’s panel. Both women announced the news Thursday on Twitter.

“Thank you American Idol for a life-changing experience,” Minaj wrote. “Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the music! Muah!”

Carey’s PR firm wrote: “W/ global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol.”

Fox and FremantleMedia also confirmed Carey’s departure in a joint statement. “Mariah Carey is a true global icon — one of the most accomplished artists on the planet — and we feel extremely fortunate that she was able to bring her wisdom and experience to the ‘American Idol’ contestants this season. We know she will remain an inspiration to ‘Idol’ hopefuls for many seasons to come,” the statement said.

The news comes three weeks after veteran judge Randy Jackson said he was leaving after 12 seasons so he could focus on other work. That leaves only Keith Urban’s fate to be decided. The country singer joined Idol at the same time as Minaj and Carey. Earlier this week he told the Associated Press that he had “no official information” about the next season.

“I’m pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around. I don’t know anything more about what’s happening next season. It was like this before I signed on . . . so it’s not unusual for the Idol folks to be in this place of figuring out what they want to do, then they always pull it together,” he said.

One of the rumors surrounding the Idol shakeup is American Idol alums joining the judge’s panel. The front runners are rumored to be Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert.

Keith Urban Wants To Return To American Idol For Season 13

Keith Urban is not ready for his American Idol journey to end. When asked about his thoughts on returning as a judge for season 13, the country singer told reporters that he would love to.

“I would. I mean, I literally enjoy coming to work every day, and that’s a rarity,” he said.

Veteran judge Randy Jackson has already confirmed his departure after the current season, but the fates of Urban, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey remain unclear. Show insiders claim Idol bosses plan to let Urban, Minaj and Carey go in order to create a whole new judges panel.

Urban, 45, also opened up to reporters about his judging style. “For me it’s just about seeing things about them that they need to get rid of because they get in the way of their true talent — little bad habits when you’re starting out,” he explained. “You chip away all the stuff that is there in the beginning. In a lot of ways it’s just picking up on those things that I probably had at that age as well.”

As for his thoughts on the final 2 contestants of season 12, Kree Harrison and Candice Glover, Urban says they “share a lot of traits.” “They have a lot of vulnerability and strength that are both apparent when they perform. They’re both survivors. They both come from very rootsy, earthy, real families, and I think that’s what’s apparent in what they do,” he added. “There’s no pageantry in either of them; that’s why I love them both so much. They sing because they need to sing, not because they want to be famous. That’s what they do and we’re really lucky to have them.”

American Idol Bosses To Sack All 4 Judges

Thanks to waning ratings, a big shake up is reportedly coming to American Idol. Insiders claim show bosses plan to sack all of the judges – including Randy Jackson, the last remaining original judge. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is also allegedly on the chopping block

“All four are gone,” the source tells The Wrap of Jackson, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

Bosses hope the shake up will bring viewers back. “They feel they’ve lost their core audience and they want it back,” says the insider.

Another change in the works is a cutback on hefty pay checks — new judges won’t receive anything near Carey’s reported $18 million a year or Minaj’s $12 million a year. “No more big checks for divas,” adds the source.

No comment has been made by Fox or reps for Jackson, Minaj, Carey and Urban. The next American Idol winner will be crowned next week. The three finalists are Kree Harrison, Angie Miller and Candice Glover.

Justin Bieber Wins Big at AMAs

Justin Bieber was the big winner at the American Music Awards, winning multiple awards including Artist of the Year.

The singer had already claimed the night’s first trophy for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and the Favorite Pop/Rock Album prize when his name was called as presented the ceremony’s last category.

Dragging his reluctant mom Pattie Mallette up onstage with him, the pop superstar said, “This is my mom, she’s little but she’s beautiful… I wanna thank you for just always believing in me… This is amazing.”

He also addressed the drama swirling around his personal life amid reports he and longtime girlfriend Selena Gomez have split up, telling fans, “As long as you guys keep believing in me… I wanna always make you proud.”

It was a great night for Bieber’s musical family too – his mentor Usher and protege Carly Rae Jepsen both performed and took home awards.

The South Korean pop sensation was joined onstage by MC Hammer for a mash-up of his catchy anthem and Too Legit to Quit.

Psy and dance music star David Guetta made history at the AMAs by winning the first ever New Media Award and Favorite Electronic Dance Music Artist honors, respectively.

There was also a tribute to the late Dick Clark, who created the American Music Awards. The music and TV mogul’s longtime pal Stevie Wonder took to the stage to perform a three-song medley of hits as images of Clark, who died in April, were beamed onto a screen behind him.

Nicki Minaj: ‘Carey is Stirring up Controversy’

Rapper Nicki Minaj is going on the offensive after her rivalAmerican Idol judge Mariah Carey went public with her fears about her safety following an argument on Tuesday.

The two new judges were filming an audition in Charlotte, North Carolina when they became embroiled in a huge argument over a contestant, with the Starships hitmaker unleashing a furious, foul-mouthed tirade at Carey.

Footage of the fall-out has since leaked online and reports suggest Minaj continued her rant as she walked off set, and allegedly raged, “If I had a gun I would shoot her (Carey).”

Idol’s executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has insisted the death threat story is “absolute rubbish”, but Carey went on to fan the flames of the controversy by sharing her side of events in a phone call with veteran broadcaster Barbara Walters on Thursday.

In the chat, which Walters recanted on The View, the Hero icon admitted she was beefing up her security for her own protection because, “Nicki is unpredictable”.

Now Minaj is firing back over what she believes is nothing but a pitiful PR stunt and she has aired her feelings on her blog, accusing Carey of playing up the incident to gain public sympathy.

Addressing her fans, who she affectionately calls barbz, the hip-hop star insists she never threatened Carey and is adamant the media has turned on her because of rap stereotypes.

She sarcastically writes, “Hey yAll. Lets (sic) just say nicki said smthn (something) about a gun. ppl (people) will believe it cuz (sic) she’s a black rapper… I’ll then hit up Barbara n (and) milk it… Ironically no camera or mic heard the gun comment tho (though)… Not even the producers believed u. Say no to violence barbz…”

Minaj goes on to accuse Carey of stirring up the controversy after reportedly becoming jealous of the rapper’s popularity with producers: “I don’t call (gossip website) tmz n Barbara Walters cuz I stand on my own two feet. Never needed an army. God is good. Insecurity is as cruel as the grave. I guess it hurts 2 have the producers tell u to ur face that nicki is the best judge we’ve had since simon (Cowell, former judge). Awww, poor u. Keep them lies cmn (coming)”.

And she’s upset Carey aired her feelings in public after appearing to clear the air with Minaj on Wednesday.

She adds, “Tried to keep quiet but let’s go!!!! I thought we resolved it yesterday but I see u want ur pity party to continue… All I do is compliment u. That’s not enuff (enough)? Ur a legend, cheer up. U don’t have to run down ur resume or feel intimidated (sic).”
