Eminem and Beyonce Rule the New Year’s Music Charts

Please follow TMW on Twitter and like us on  Facebook.

Beyonce and Eminem have started the new year as they ended 2013 — on top of the U.S. charts.

Beyonce’s self-titled surprise Christmas treat album rings in 2014 as America’s top choice for a third week. Thanks to a solid year-ending 310,000 sales week, the new release has sold over one million units – in just 17 days.

She also becomes the first artist to land three consecutive 300,000-sales weeks since 2009.

One Direction move up a spot to two with Midnight Memories, while Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2 also rises to three.

The British boy band celebrate another one million seller this week – five weeks after releasing Midnight Memories.

Meanwhile, Eminem and Rihanna’s The Monster rules the Hot 100 singles countdown, keeping Pitbull and Ke$ha’s Timber off the top of the chart. It gives Rihanna another countdown milestone – she becomes one of only three acts to land 51 or more weeks at number one with her 13th chart-topper. Only Mariah Carey (79) and the Beatles (59) have more weeks at the top.

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top three is OneRepublic’s Counting Stars.

MTV Names Miley Cyrus Best Artist of 2013

MTV today announced that pop sensation Miley Cyrus (Miley.MTV.com) has been selected by its Music and News teams as MTV’s Best Artist of 2013. Additionally, according to traffic data from music discovery site, Artists.MTV.com, Cyrus had the year’s most visited artist page, while her medley of “We Can’t Stop/Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke from the 2013 “MTV Video Music Awards” tops the list as the most watched video of 2013.

In addition, MTV’s 2013 “Best Of” lists will continue to roll out this week, including the Top 10 Best Movies on Wednesday, December 11, Best Songs on Thursday, December 12 and Best Movie Characters on Friday, December 13. To view all of MTV’s year-end content visit BestOf.MTV.com.

Miley Cyrus dominated both the charts and headlines this year with the release of the critically acclaimed #1 album, Bangerz, two #1 worldwide smash singles, “We Can’t Stop,” and “Wrecking Ball,” two jaw dropping performances during the 2013 “MTV Video Music Awards” and “MTV EMA”, an original MTV documentary “Miley: The Movement,” as well as a memorable turn as a host and performer on Saturday Night Live.

She is only the third artist to receive the distinction of being named MTV’s Best Artist of the Year with past honorees including Katy Perry (2011) and One Direction (2012).

Several members of this year’s graduating class of MTV’s Artists to Watch, a biweekly campaign in which an artist and their music are showcased across all of MTV’s networks and screens, made the editorial lists. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who made history as the first artists to perform at all three MTV award show events in a single calendar year, were named #2 best artist of 2013, while New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde who scored a massive anti-hit with “Royals,” ranks as #9 on the list. In early 2014, MTV will announce this year’s Artist to Watch class.

The criteria for the editorial lists included album and single sales, touring, airplay, social media, Internet and overall impact.

Justin Timberlake Wants ‘NSYNC and One Direction To Perform Together

Justin Timberlake wants to form a teen dream supergroup featuring his ‘NSYNC bandmates and One Direction.

The veteran singers – Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick – reunited at the MTV Video Music Awards last month (Aug13) after going on extended hiatus in 2002.

Now Timberlake has suggested their comeback could be even more spectacular – he wants to form an all-boy supergroup with the five lads in One Direction.

Timberlake tells U.K. TV show Daybreak, “Really can 10 of those hairstyles be on the same stage? I think we already know the answer… We should just form like some supergroup. It’d be hilarious.

“I haven’t seen the One Direction lads too much just because I’m constantly moving, probably at the same pace they are, but what I have seen, I think I like them. They seem grounded to me. I like that about them.”

One Direction are rumoured to be in the running to be shortlisted for several awards at next year’s Golden Globe Awards.

According to new sources This Is Us 3D received “positive views” from the panel of the Golden Globes and is now expected to be shortlisted in categories for Best Documentary Feature, Best Original Score and Best Original Song for ‘Best Song Ever’ .

“The One Direction film was really greeted with positive views,” a source close to the Golden Globes told the Daily Star this week. “The story of it and examination of their lives made it interesting and the songs will definitely be shortlisted.
