Recently, Katy Perry has surpassed Justin Bieber as the top icon on social media, now owning the most followers. Although Perry may have a better public image than Bieber, especially after complaints of his borderline-illegal behavior, both have shown the power of social media and what it can do for a career. They are two of the biggest music artists around today with multiple awards and platinum records apiece, but what they truly have is a marketable brand. Perry and Bieber know what demographics to target and are very successful at doing so.
For the longest time, businesses have ignored social media and in some cases are still neglecting or mismanaging their usage of the platform. But, during this past decade,more and more brands have discovered the benefits of a solid presence on social media. There are many companies who find maintaining a proper social mediaoutlet to be a challenge; however, the rewards carry the power to maximize the most out of public outreach.
