Pop star Lady Gaga is cruising around in style while she recovers from hip surgery, after commissioning a designer to create a golden wheelchair for her.
The Poker Face hitmaker scrapped the U.S. leg of her Born This Way Ball tour last month after she was diagnosed with synovitis, a severe inflammation of the joints, and she underwent an operation to treat the condition in February.
Since then, Gaga has been ordered to limit her physical activity, and now she has a sweet new way of getting around – a 24-karat gold-plated wheelchair, which comes with a reclining back.
Jewellery designer Ken Borochov tells the New York Post, “I certainly wasn’t expecting that phone call and have never done a wheelchair but am always up for a challenge and was thrilled to create what I affectionately dubbed the Chariot, a chair fit only for a queen.”
The singer’s pal, photographer Terry Richardson, uploaded an image of the singer testing out her new set of wheels on Twitter.com on Tuesday.
Lady Gaga‘s Terry Richardson-shot photo book hits stores in less than a week, and as such, she’s decided to give her fans a sneak peek — with a little Mother Monster Story Time.
In a new video posted on her YouTube channel, Gaga reads the intro she penned for the book, an essay about her relationship with Richardson that’s long on literary flourish and also serves as an examination of self, not to mention a rallying cry for those on the fringes of society. It is, to say the very least, very Gaga.
Reclining on a couch in a black, sequined outfit (with matching chapeau), LG cracks the tome — which, she notes, is “dedicated to the Little Monsters, naturally” — and pores over her prose. And somewhere, Terry Richardson is undoubtedly blushing.
“Sometimes it seems as though I’ve waited my entire life to be photographed by Terry Richardson. With Terry, the relationship extends beyond the photograph, and if you’re lucky, he will teach you something truly profound about yourself,” she reads. “I have discovered through him that shame is an obsolete notion and apology is an injustice to any performance. … To say he is a free spirit is a tremendous understatement and to say that he, or I, make people uncomfortable is spot on.
Pop superstar Lady Gaga is releasing her first book – a collection of images taken by top fashion photographer Terry Richardson.
The Paparazzi hitmaker allowed the snapper to capture her life through the lens between August, 2010 and February this year (11), while she was on The Monster Ball Tour and recording for her latest album, Born This Way.
The results will be shown in her self-titled release, which will feature more than 350 color and black-and-white pictures of the star.
Gaga will pen the foreword. The book, produced by Grand Central Publishing, is due to hit shelves on 22 November (11).
