Chris Hemsworth to Announce Oscar Nominations Thursday

Actor Chris Hemsworth is to help announce the nominations for the 86th Academy Awards Thursday in Beverly Hills, Calif., organizers announced.

The “Thor” and “The Avengers” star will join Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs in reading the names of the lucky nominees at the academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Winners of the awards will be announced March 2 during a ceremony to air live on ABC.

Ellen DeGeneres is to serve as host of the prize presentation.

Iron Man 3" Takes Off with 93% of Today’s Ticket Sales on Fandango

Fandango, the nation’s leading moviegoer destination, reported today that Iron Man 3 is the first film this year to score 100 on the company’s Fanticipation scale (above), which charts movie fan buzz and excitement around the weekend box office line-up. Numerical scores (on a 1-100 scale) are calculated based a proprietary analysis of Fandango’s advance ticket sales, website and mobile traffic, and social media engagement. To date, Iron Man 3 is flying away with 93% of Fandango’s ticket sales today as of 10 am PT.

Voted in a springtime Fandango moviegoer survey as the most anticipated film of the summer season, Iron Man 3 is currently Fandango’s top-selling advance ticket-seller of the year, and its advance sales are outperforming Iron Man 2, at the same point in that film’s sales cycle.

According to a Fandango survey of more than 1,000 Iron Man 3 ticket-buyers:

88% of survey respondents said The Avengers influenced their decision to see Iron Man 3.

62% said Gwyneth Paltrow’s more dynamic role in Iron Man 3 increased their interest in seeing the movie.

57% picked Sir Ben Kingsley as the most anticipated newcomer to the Iron Man franchise.

MTV Movie Awards Winners List: The Avengers Dominates

The Avengers proved to be the big winner of the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, picking up 3 three golden popcorn trophies. In addition to scoring the Movie of the Year Award, the film claimed awards for Best Fight and Best Villain. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence also won big for their roles in Silver Linings Playbook. They scored awards for Best Female and Male Performance as well as Best Kiss. Chris Hemsworth Begins Work on ‘Thor: The Dark World

After the monumental success of Thor and Avengers, Chris Hemsworth is back to work as the Norse God for a sequel called The Dark World.

And from the looks from the film set in Surrey, England, it is going to be just as action packed as the first. As well as Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, and Stellan Skarsgard are all returning for the second film.

Fandango Sets New Records with "The Avengers"

Fandango, the nation’s leading moviegoer destination, announced today that it set a new record with “The Avengers” for the most tickets sold for any opening weekend in the company’s 12-year history. On top of that, Fandango also set records for the largest percentage of tickets sold via mobile on the weekend (42% of Sunday sales), as well as the top hourly sales record – selling as much as 68,000 tickets per hour during peak sales times (Friday, May 4 from 3-4 pm PT).

The previous record-holder was “The Hunger Games,” which sold 60,000 tickets during a peak ticket-selling period. The company also saw its top-selling single day (May 4, 2012) for a movie, beating “The Hunger Games” opening day on March 23, 2012.


“Fandango continues to see millions of fans taking advantage of our many conveniences and innovations to guarantee their seats, particularly with movies in hot demand like ’The Avengers,’” said Rick Butler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango. “Our record-setting mobile sales affirm that mobile has clearly transitioned from just an alternative way to buy tickets to a primary choice for many weekend moviegoers. As of Monday, the film is still going strong, with all signs pointing to staggering ticket sales in the weeks to come.”

According to a Fandango online survey of thousands of moviegoers, 66% of “Avengers” fans plan to see the movie more than once in the theater, indicating repeat viewings throughout the week. As of Monday, the film still accounts for 94% of all daily tickets sold on Fandango.

‘The Avengers’ Scores Biggest Opening Weekend of all Time With $200.3 Million!

Disney’s The Avengers smashed the opening weekend record by earning $200.3 million this weekend, according to studio estimates.

The prior record was held by last summer’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, which debuted to $169.2 million. ButThe Avengers was the perfect storm: a highly anticipated 3-D action movie that combined the superheroes of several prior Marvel blockbusters while managing to stand alone as a well-reviewed, crowd-pleasing film in its own right. Oh, and it had a Hulk.

Worldwide, The Avengers has made an amazing $641.8 million so far.
