Lady Gaga Opens Up About Cher Song Dispute

Lady Gaga has finally spoken out about her decision to block the release of her collaboration with Cher, insisting the song wasn’t up to par because they recorded their vocals separately.

Cher has been candid about her frustration after Gaga refused to let the song, titled The Greatest Thing, feature on The Believe hitmaker’s new album.

But an unfinished version of the track was leaked online last month.

Gaga has now opened up about the dispute over the song, admitting she didn’t like the finished product because it wasn’t a true collaboration between the two artists.

“I have so much respect for Cher and I love Cher so much that when we do a duet that we release, I wanted it to be something that was really, really special,” Gaga said, speaking on US TV show Watch What Happens Live.

“…We just didn’t have time to work on it together…

“We recorded it (separately)… and I wrote the song a long time ago.”

“To be fair, if I was writing a song for Cher now, I would want to hear her album and I want to know where she is in her life. I would want to talk to her about where she is going musically and I didn’t get to do any of those things.”So I didn’t want to put out something that wasn’t up to par with what Cher has put out before. It’s not really about me, it’s more about her. Because it’s Cher!”

Cher and Lady Gaga’s Collaboration May Not Be Released: "Im disappointed" says Cher

Cher revealed Lady Gaga’s collaboration ‘The Greatest Thing’ may not be released as there has been a disagreement between the stars and it appears Gaga does not like the track.

Lady GaGa is blocking Cher from releasing her duet with her.

Gaga donated a track she wrote, ‘The Greatest Thing’, to the 67-year-old diva, which they then recorded together, but the results have never been aired.

When asked by a fan on twitter why the song has not been released the song, Cher wrote: ”It’s done & she [Gaga] doesn’t like it, or want it to come out. She’s an artist, it’s up to her. I’m disappointed 2 (sic).”

The producer behind the track – regular Gaga collaborator RedOne – previously said the song was something he and Gaga had worked on together, but remained unfinished until he played it to Cher.

He said: ”Gaga and I recorded the song a few years ago, and we were always in the studio enjoying that song. It’s weird we never did anything with it.

”So I remember my management and Cher’s management were trying to get us together, and I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’d love to meet Cher, just to meet her!’ And so I met her, I played her some songs, and I played her ‘The Greatest Thing,’ and she loved it. She said, ‘This is my song.’ ”

Originally Gaga was happy for Cher to record the track and to appear on the remix, but with RedOne’s encouragement it became a duet.

He added: ”I cut the vocals with Cher first, and I was in Madrid and got a textfrom Gaga saying, ‘I’m thinking about jumping on the song in the remix.’ ”

”I was like, ‘No, you should jump on the original! Make it a duet.’ She said, ‘Oh yes, OK, absolutely,’ and then I spoke to Cher, and it became a party.”

Cher is set to release her 26th studio album, ‘Closer To The Truth’ – her first since 2001 – in September.

Lady Gaga And Cher Single ‘The Greatest Thing’

Just in case you missed it….This summer Lady Gaga confirmed her duet with Cher on Twitter, and hinted at the title of their new song.
“Who knew a year ago when I was crying in her arms after she gave me an award, that today we would record a duet,” Gaga tweeted.
 “@Cher You are The Greatest.”
The single will be called ‘The Greatest Thing’ and it’s a track Lady Gaga recorded with hit producer Red One a few years ago but never released.
When Red One was invited to work with Cher he played her the song and she “loved it”.
“I cut the vocals with Cher first, and I was in Madrid and got a text from Gaga saying, ‘I’m thinking about jumping on the song in the remix’,” Red One told Digital Spy.
“I was like, ‘No, you should jump on the original! Make it a duet.’ She said, ‘Oh yes, OK, absolutely,’ and then I spoke to Cher, and it became a party.”
“Everybody loved it. Gaga on it, Cher, two big icons, (they are) part of music history. So it happened. I’m very happy to be a part of this.”
The new music from Lady Gaga and Cher is expected to premiere soon as Cher said recently ‘The Greatest Thing; would be revealed in September.
