Lady Gaga is to Appear With The Muppets For a One-Off TV Special in America Next Month

The Applause singer will star alongside the puppets in a 90 minute special on American network ABC.
Lady Gaga & The Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular will air on 28 November, which is Thanksgiving in the US. Sir Elton John and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are among the other guests who will be a part of the show. It’s the second time Lady Gaga, 27, has been part of the network’s holiday special.

“I was so excited when ABC called me about doing a holiday special this year,” said the singer. “I knew it just wouldn’t be a complete night of laughter and memories without The Muppets!”

In 2009, Kermit the Frog was Lady Gaga’s date to the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). “Can’t wait to see the gang again and I hope Miss Piggy’s still not mad about Kermit. We’re just friends!”

In a statement from ABC, Kermit the Frog said: “What an incredible opportunity!” “We have a long history with Ms. Gaga, so we jumped at the chance to do a holiday special with her.

The singer also wore a dress made of Kermit the Frog toys on German TV in the same year as her appearance with him at the VMAs.

“We won’t even mind if she mistakes some of the Muppets for pieces of her wardrobe, again,” added Kermit.

Lady Gaga is also set to perform at the first YouTube Music Awards with Eminem and Arcade Fire, among others.

She will appear on Sunday’s (27 October) X Factor results show. It was announced that she’ll perform Venus from her upcoming third studio album Artpop, which is scheduled to be released in November.

Disney Confirms Sequel To ‘Muppets’

Disney has confirmed that they are, in fact, at work on a follow up to 2011’s “The Muppets.” In a pressconference at this year’s CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, the studio revealed that director James Bobin will return. They also confirmed rumors that Jason Segel will not.

Bobin is reportedly working on the screenplay for the sequel with James Stoller. Earlier this year Segel spoke with explaining his motivation to move away from the Oscar winning franchise:

“You know, my goal was to bring The Muppets back and I think I achieved that. It was half a decade of my life and I just want to take a minute to concentrate on more human related projects,” he said.

Thus far there is no specific release information for the “Muppets 2,” but Disney says it will likely be out in the summer of 2013.

Jack Black Defends The Muppets

Jack Black has come to the defense of the popular puppets after Courtney Love reportedly accused them of destroying Kurt Cobain’s legacy by covering a Nirvana song in the latest movie.

The Hole star was said to be upset to discover Smells Like Teen Spirit was used in The Muppets film in a scene featuring Black, and is reported to have told pals the cover was “raping” her late husband’s work.

However, Black is adamant no offense was intended as he is a big fan of the Nirvana frontman.

He tells E! Online, “I beg to differ… That’s absurd, absurd, absurd… I personally hold no one in higher esteem in the world of rock. Kurt Cobain for me is at the top of the pyramid. He was the king… When he died it was sort of the end of rock.”
