The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn – Part 2 doesn’t only have a really long name, it looks like it’ll stay at the top of the box office charts for a really long time. Sorry. But it’s true, Twilight stays top while Skyfall remains its understudy as Killing Them Softly doesn’t manage to live up to its pre-release hype.
Twilight and Skyfall now have $254.6M and $246.0M on the 3rd and 4th weeks respectively. The 23rd entry in the Bond franchise is not only the series’ highest-grossing film, its also the highest grossing spy movie ever in the U.S.Skyfall’s worldwide total currently stands at $869 million. In the meanwhile Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln claims the third spot with $13.5m and just under $84m overall; a figure that industry experts expect to rise over $100m before the holiday period is out. Rise of the Guardians from DreamWorks Studios $13,500,000 has managed 4th, while Ang Lee’s Life of Pi continues it’s slow but steady start, rounding off the top 5 in its second week with $12m and $48.4M.
The solitary animation in this week’s chart, Wreck it Ralph makes #6 with $7,020,000, and it’s around now that we find Killing Them Softly underperforming in 7th. Brad Pitt’s latest project received mixed reviews from the critics, and finds itself in 7th with that many million. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 continued its reign at the top after raking in $43.1 million.
The final movie of the hugely popular vampire franchise, which stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, held off competition from Daniel Craig’s Skyfall for the second week in a row to retain the number one spot.
The Bond film remained at two with takings of $36 million.
Steven Spielberg’s historical epic Lincoln clung onto third place with earnings of $25 million, while fantasy film Rise of the Guardians entered in fourth place with $24 million and adventure movie Life of Pi premiered at five, taking $22 million.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s romance seems to be back on solid ground following Stewart’s cheating scandal, but sources say the 22-year-old actress is still struggling with her mistake. The Twilight star sometimes has “bad days” when it comes to feeling guilty about her brief fling with married director Rupert Sanders last July.
Pattinson, 26, is ready to put the past behind them, an insider tells Us Weekly magazine. “He’s never going to forget what she did, but he has forgiven her. Almost losing him was a wake-up call for Kristen. And Rob doesn’t want to be angry anymore. They want to move forward,” the source says.
“They’re comfortable, almost as if no scandal had occurred,” adds another source.
The couple briefly split after Stewart admitted to cheating on Pattinson with Sanders, her director for Snow White and the Huntsman. They reportedly reunited in October and have been together ever since.
Pattinson and Stewart are currently on a promotional tour for the fifth and final installment in the Twilight film series, Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Twilight star Taylor Lautner has dodged questions about his co-star Kristen Stewart’s summer cheating scandal in a new magazine interview.
The 20-year-old sat down with editors at Cosmopolitan for the publication’s December issue and when quizzed about his reaction to Stewart’s “indiscretion” with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, which temporarily ended her relationship to boyfriend Robert Pattinson, Lautner opted to handle the situation with grace.
He said, “Kristen is fantastic at everything she does. I’m always proud of her.”
The journalist continued to press the issue, wondering if Lautner would ever take a disloyal lover back, and he added, “To be honest, I’ve never been involved in any of those situations, so I don’t know…
“It depends on how long you were with that person. If it was a long, serious relationship, I think it’s quite easy to rekindle. I guess it depends on what damage has been done.”
Lautner isn’t the only celebrity to defend Stewart in the wake of the media firestorm – her The Runaways co-star DakotaFanning also recently added her support, saying, “Everyone thinks they have the right to, you know, publicize the struggles and sadness and heartbreak and all of that… It’s like, ‘Why do you think you are the authority to judge people’s experiences?'”
