Cyndi Lauper Sings Wrong Words During The National Anthem

Cyndi Lauper flubbed the National Anthem during a tenth anniversary 9/11 memorial performance prior to the U.S. Open.

The “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” singer dove into the performance after a moment of silence honoring those who died in the attacks. Ms. Lauper, however, was unable to get the words correct.

She sang “O’er the ramparts we watched, as our flag was still streaming.” The correct wording, however, is “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.”

The mistake did not damage her otherwise admirable performance. Afterwards she hit Twitter to issue a mea culpa:

“I got choked up in the middle remembering 9/11. I hope I didn’t mess up too bad. I wanted it to be comforting.”

Earlier this year during the opening ceremony to the Super Bowl, Christina Aguilera made a similar gaff.
