10 Music Myths People Still Believe

Some of the greatest music myths are those that pass through generations and are still fresh and new to each set of ears that hears them. The best of the best are funny, mean and downright outrageous. But hey, you have to be pretty high on the popularity scale to get one of these things said about you, so myth or not, all press is good press. According to Webster’s, a myth is a “a widely held but false belief or idea.” So in no particular order, here are 10 of the greatest music myths people still believe, even after all these years.

Lady Gaga’s A Dude!

Ms. Germanotta addressed this particular rumor herself during an interview with Barbara Walters back in 2010. Walters asked Gaga about the biggest misconception about her and Gaga replied, “That I am artificial and attention seeking when the truth is that every bit of me is devoted to love and art and I aspire to – try to be a teacher to my young fans – who are – who are just like me – who feel just like how I felt when I was younger. I just, I felt like a freak – I guess what I am trying to say is – I wanna liberate them – I wanna free them of their – of their fears – and make them feel that they can create their own space in the world.”  Walters then asked Gaga about the rumor that she was part man and part woman to which Gaga replied, “No I don’t mind it really it was strange and quite a story but I portray myself in an androgynous way and I love androgyny and pushing boundaries.”

Photo Alert: Make-Up Free and "Restless" Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is usually far too busy inventing alternate personas to spend time in her own skin.
But on Sunday she caught herself in a rare moment of facial undress as she took a break from her time in Japan to appear in a curiously tired looking selfie on her very own Instagram profile.
The 27-year-old songstress complained that her soul was ‘restless’ as she threw a vacant gaze down the lens to share a rare snap of her actual self with her fans.

Sir Elton John to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award from The Rockefeller Foundation

The Rockefeller Foundation today announced that Sir Elton John will be the recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be conferred during the Foundation’s Centennial year at its upcoming event – “A Celebration of American Philanthropy” – to be held on October 30, 2013 in Washington, D.C. The Rockefeller Foundation will also make a grant to the Elton John AIDS Foundation to further its good work.

In addition to being one of the world’s most successful and dynamic musicians, Sir Elton John is well known globally as a leading advocate and philanthropist on behalf of people with HIV/AIDS. In the early days of the AIDS crisis, he was one of the first to realize that it was necessary to de-stigmatize HIV/AIDS before governments and other donors would devote major resources to fighting the disease. His personal leadership and philanthropy over many years has led to progress in addressing discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, and provided major resources to treatment and a cure.

“At The Rockefeller Foundation, we are constantly searching for innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges,” said Dr. Judith Rodin, president of The Rockefeller Foundation. “As such, we are honored to recognize Sir Elton John for his unwavering commitment and contributions to the fight against HIV/AIDS, and for the innovative work he has done not just targeting the disease, but also the stigma, discrimination, politics, and community-related concerns associated with it.”

“From the beginning, it has been my steadfast belief that we would not be able to treat or cure HIV/AIDS when people living with the disease or very vulnerable to it are shunned, hidden, or denied their human rights,” said Sir Elton John. “It is an honor to receive this Award from The Rockefeller Foundation, an organization that has been at the forefront of leveraging innovation, in all its forms, to promote the well-being of humanity around the world.”

ABC and Facebook Partner to Bring Real-Time Social Conversations to Premiere of ‘Dancing With the Stars’

ABC and Facebook are partnering to bring real-time social conversations to the television screen, as ABC will be the first entertainment network to integrate Facebook’s newest tools for broadcast partners on primetime television with the season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars” on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16(8:00-10:01p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Facebook will be bringing the conversations already taking place about “Dancing with the Stars” online to the TV screen by enabling the audience to see how many people on Facebook are talking about the contestants, where the couples are generating the most buzz, whether they are more popular among males or females, and where their fans live. Real-time conversations about the show from Facebook users will be displayed during the broadcast.

“Being the first entertainment partner to leverage this new technology exhibits our commitment to producing the best live experience possible,” said Marla Provencio, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer, ABC Entertainment Group. “We are always looking for ways to innovate and engage our loyal fan base, and feel ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in particular is the perfect fit to kick off this new initiative.”

Added Nick Grudin, Director of Partnerships at Facebook, “Debuting with ‘Dancing with the Stars’ as our first entertainment partner is a natural fit. From cheering for their favorite contestants to debating judging decisions, the show drives passionate conversation from viewers. Now the TV audience will get a real-time snapshot of the social discourse across the nation.”

The new season of “Dancing with the Stars” will feature celebrities Elizabeth Berkley, Corbin Bleu, Brant Daugherty, Bill Engvall, Valerie Harper, Keyshawn Johnson, Christina Milian, Bill Nye, Jack Osbourne, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Leah Remini and Amber Riley.

“Dancing with the Stars” is produced by BBC Worldwide Productions. Conrad Green, Ashley Edens-Shaffer and Joe Sungkur are executive producers. Alex Rudzinski directs. “Dancing with the Stars” is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s selected HDTV format, with 5.1.

John Legend & Chrissy Teigen Marry In Italy

The couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in Lake Como on Saturday (14Sep13) in front of family and close friends, including rapper Kanye West and model/actress Brooklyn Decker, who served as Teigen’s maid of honour.

The bride walked down the aisle in a white Vera Wang dress and they celebrated the nuptials at a reception with hip-hop veteran Biz Markie as Dj, according to UsMagazine.com.

Legend previously revealed he was considering serenading his bride with a special performance at the wedding, although it is not yet known if he decided to step up to the mic.

Earlier this summer (13), he told Q magazine, “I’m getting married soon… The wedding won’t be small but not too large, it’s mostly family. I just have a big family. Am I playing? I’ll probably do a song or two. Do I take requests? No, I’m not into wedding bands.”

The singer, 34, began dating the Sports Illustrated beauty, 27, in 2007 and proposed during a festive vacation in the Maldives in 2011.

Michael Jackson Trial Expected To End Later This Month

The ongoing Michael Jackson wrongful death suit is expected to end later this month.

The King of Pop’s mother and three kids have spent the past four months in court trying to prove that executives at promotions company AEG Live were negligent in hiring Dr. Conrad Murray as Jackson’s personal physician as he worked on his ill-fated comeback shows in London. The promoters insist they didn’t hire the medic.

Murray is currently behind bars after being convicted of administering the fatal dose of anaesthetic propofol that claimed Jackson’s life in June, 2009.

Court insiders expect the wrongful death case to go to the jury later this month.

AEG Live attorney Marvin Putnam has said he hopes to rest his case at the end of next week at the latest.

Cher’s 40th Birthday Turned Sour After Jack Nicholson Snub

Pop superstar Cher’s joy at turning 40 was dealt a crushing blow when Jack Nicholson insisted she wasn’t sexy enough to star in The Witches Of Eastwick.

The Believe hitmaker reveals she was thrilled to be celebrating her milestone birthday back in 1986, when she hit New York for a wild night out with pals.

However, her glee soon turned sour when she received a call from director George Miller the next morning, as she was told leading man Nicholson didn’t want her cast as one of his bewitched lovers in the 1987 dark comedy.

When asked what period she would return to if she could time travel, Cher tells U.K. morning show Daybreak, “I would go to the night of my 40th birthday. I was sitting with my friends and we were in a club that we all used to go to in New York and I was thinking ‘Wow you know I just dodged age, I just dodged death, I’m 40 years old and I look great and I’m just having a great time’.

“Except in the morning time the man that directed The Witches of Eastwick called me and said, ‘You can’t be in the movie because Jack Nicholson doesn’t think you’re sexy.'”

Despite the apparent snub, the singer went on to star in the movie anyway, alongside Easy Rider star Nicholson and fellow screen sirens Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer.
