Madonna has triumphed in a legal battle over her hit track Vogue.
Executives at a company named VMG Salsoul filed a lawsuit against the pop superstar and producer Robert ‘Shep’ Pettibone alleging they illegally sampled a composition called Chicago Bus on the 1990 single.
In the legal papers, which were filed in California in July, VMG Salsoul bosses claimed new technology had uncovered the alleged sample in Madonna’s song.
However, District Court Judge Beverly O’Connell ruled in the pop star’s favour, stating, “Having listened to the sound recordings… the court finds that no reasonable audience would find the sampled portions qualitatively or quantitatively significant in relation to the infringing work, nor would they recognise the appropriation. The court finds that any sampling of the (composition) was minimal or trivial.”
Richard Busch, the attorney representing the defendants, says, “We are thrilled with the decision and believe it is absolutely the right result.”
A rare portfolio of photographs from Marilyn Monroe’s last sitting is up for grabs to the highest bidder.
Freeman’s auction house in Philadelphia says the limited-edition portfolio of 10 photos goes on the block Sept. 10. The photos were made from fashion photographer Bert Stern’s original negatives from his June 1962 assignment for Vogue.
Monroe died six weeks later.
The head of the century-old auction house’s photography division says the photos will be on view starting Sept. 6. The auction house estimates the portfolio could fetch $10,000 to $15,000.
Stern took more than 2,500 photos of the Hollywood icon over three days at Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles. The 20-by-20-inch portfolio photos are from the first day.
The soul singer’s estranged father is speaking out after his daughter declared she would “spit in his face” if she ever saw him again.
The Grammy-winning singer’s dad Mark Evans split from Adele‘s mother Penny when she was just three years old and the star has had little contact with him over the last decade.
Evans sold his side of the story to a British tabloid last year, but the candid chat left Adele fuming and she is adamant any chance of a reunion has now been dashed for good.
She recently told Vogue magazine, “I was actually ready to start trying to have a relationship with him. He’s f***ing blown it…
“He will never hear from me again… If I ever see him I will spit in his face.”
Evans has now reached out to Adele in a candid interview with Britain’s Daily Mail, admitting her comments hit him hard.
He tells the publication, “I can’t believe she said that. It’s devastating. I don’t know where it’s come from.”
Evans claims he last spoke to Adele at Christmas and although their communication was brief, he wished her well in her new relationship with charity boss Simon Konecki.
He adds, “He seems a lovely chap. They’re made in heaven together. She deserves to be loved. It would be lovely for Adele to have a nice guy in her life and settle down.”
